Cardinals Organization Roster Matrix: 2017 Short Season

With the official opening of the short-season phase of the minor league schedule, it is time for another refresh of the Roster Matrix.

This reflects moves during the second half of the regular season in 2017. The previous matrix reflects the rosters as they evolved from the end of 2017 spring training until mid-June.

If you are new to the blog and not familiar with the Cardinals organization roster matrix, here is a quick summary:

As 2017 short-season season play opened, the St. Louis Cardinals had 244 players under contract from top to bottom, including 39 players on the 40-man roster. The 40-man members are called out in bold.

The matrix places each of the 244 at his assigned level in the system as well as by position. The matrix is kept updated daily or as transactions occur.

Nowhere else will you find this current and comprehensive single-page view of the entire Cardinals organization plus multiple years of history.

Do not be concerned about the order of the players’ names within position. It has no relative significance.

  1. jlshetler says:

Was Kirtley assigned to SC or JC? You’ve got him one way on the chronology and another in the matrix. I’m thinking SC is right since at JC that roster would exceed the 35-man limit.

  2. LouisEu says:

    Total is 267 or 269?

When C.Rivera was added the total become -1 and not +1

    New organization total: 249 players.
6/16: 4 players released in May: SC OFs Bladimil Franco, Anthony Ray, RHR Jery Then, JC OF DeAndre Asbury Heath. SC C Chris Rivera returned to retired list. New organization total: 244 players.

  3. LouisEu says:

Sorry, my bad. I missed “to ritered list”
    267 is right

    Hi Brian,

Thought maybe you were just holding off on announcing, but I don’t see Oneiver Diaz or Hector Mendoza on the DSL roster and in your totals.

    • Brian Walton says:

Oversights on my part. Thanks for pointing them out. Diaz did not report to spring camp, so I took him off in March. Did not add him here when he returned. Mendoza was a simple miss. Both joined/rejoined after the DSL season opened. I will make a new entry for the two and note Mendoza’s signing date of June 7.

I have a major cross check in the next 24 hours as I synch the new TCN team rosters to the Matrix. Two fewer problems for me to find and fix then!
