2014 Cardinals home and away spring broadcast schedule

Note: This Cardinals spring broadcast schedule is out of date. Check out the current one posted here.

As is the case every spring, I scan the Florida broadcast plans of the St. Louis Cardinals as well as their varied Grapefruit League opponents and combine their schedule plans in one place right here.

Though spring training is better covered each year, it is different than the regular season, when almost every game is televised and every single one is available on the radio (as well as via the various internet, cable and satellite carriers).

There is a major improvement ahead in 2014. Next week, FOX Sports Midwest is expected to announce plans to televise 15 spring training contests, up from 10 last year, reports Jenifer Langosch of As of yet, the individual games have not been disclosed.

While most fans would rather prefer to listen to the Cardinals announcers, receiving any spring telecast or radio feed would have to be better than the alternative. Many cable and satellite packages offer other teams’ regional sports networks and MLB’s pay offerings ensure every game listed below can be taken in.

To that end, following is the current schedule of spring television and radio plans that affect the Cardinals. Note two ESPN games and two games on other FOX Sports regional networks. The latter two will likely be among FSM’s 15, as well.

On the radio side, KMOX is once again planning to broadcast 18 games, starting with the February 28 opener and concluding a month later with the exhibition game from Memphis’ AutoZone Park. In addition, the two Minnesota and two Detroit games will be picked up by their respective radio networks.

Check back for this schedule to be filled in further as additional plans are announced, especially when FOX Sports Midwest’s Cardinals spring schedule is disclosed next week.

January 13 update: Dan Caesar of the Post-Dispatch shared the details of the 15 FS Midwest games to be telecast. To my recollection, never before has the spring opener been on television. (Note that two of the games will be on an overflow channel due to schedule conflicts.)

With these additions, 17 of 28 Cards Grapefruit League contests will be televised, but more could still be added.  That depends on MLB Network’s yet-to-be disclosed plans as well as other opponents, including the Mets, Marlins, Nationals, Astros and Braves. Based on what is currently known, including radio, Cardinals and opponents, just three of the 28 spring contests will not be accessible in some manner electronically.

(Note: There was a slight discrepancy on the radio plans for the split squad day on March 7. The P-D indicates KMOX will cover the Jupiter game, which the Cardinals website has the Port St. Lucie contest on the radio schedule instead. The tie was broken later in the day when the official press release came out. It is the home game, meaning there are at least temporarily four games not covered. Since three are the Mets’ home games, SNY will likely add one or more.)

January 20 update: The Washington Nationals have announced their spring plans. As a result, the 18th televised game is now on the schedule, March 9 from Viera on MASN. See below.

January 31 update: The Miami Marlins’ spring broadcast schedule has been announced. Three Cardinals games will be televised with five on the radio. All were already on St. Louis’ schedule, though one radio game will not also be on KMOX. One interesting side note is the first two contests of the spring will be aired in Spanish.

You can add the March 7, March 12, and March 24 games to the list as televised by SNY. Their schedule was announced today.

This is important for those of us that have MLB.TV.
