Brian Walton's news and commentary on the St. Louis Cardinals (TM) and their minor league system

Cardinal Talk: KXnO FOX Sports Radio: Division ready to be taken

Weekly St. Louis Cardinals-focused chat on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines.

Late Friday afternoon, I joined Ken Miller and Jim Brinson on KXnO FOX Sports Radio 1460 in Des Moines in our weekly series to discuss the St. Louis Cardinals, “Cardinal Talk.”

As usual, we focused on the National League Central race. We of course discussed the Cardinals’ conclusion to the regular season, but also on my priorities of potential playoff opponents, Michael Wacha’s pitching gem, Trevor Rosenthal’s many contributions, Allen Craig’s foot injury and much more.

Cardinals followers in central Iowa can again catch St. Louis Cardinals radio broadcasts on KXnO as well as my regular segment each week throughout the season, either over the air or via streaming. Or, if you miss it live, you can always catch the replay right here at The Cardinal Nation blog.

Glad to see Beltran on the bench. Lets put Tony Cruz in soon.

  2. Bw52 says:

On another note per MLB trade rumors;Ted Simmons possibility for Seattle manager job,Eric Wedge quit yesterday .

    • Brian Walton says:

I forgot that Simmons works for the Mariners. I’ve seen him at Busch working as recently as this summer so assume he still lives in the area.

It may seem like a nit, but the report speculating about Simmons came from the USS Mariner blog. MLRTR just repeated it. I always prefer to give credit to the original source.

  3. JumboShrimp says:

Mujica needs to sit out the first round of the playoffs, based on yesterday. Its a shame because he was a vast contributor this year, yet we are better served with Lyons or Freeman.

  4. JumboShrimp says:

97 wins, tops in the NL!

  5. Bw52 says:

Nice season. To do what the Cards did in spite of major injuries to Furcal,Chris Carpenter Garcia and Motte was outstanding. Many rookies stepped up even as some vets slipped a bit.Now that the first step is done on to step 2 (win the playoffs).

  6. Bw52 says:

As bad as Mujica has been lately I hope he has pitched his last game in a Cards uniform this year.I would rather see Lyons or Freeman in the pen.

  7. Bw52 says:

Matt Carpenter lead the Majors in Hits 199 Doubles 55 and Runs scored 126.Adam Wainwright tied Zimmerman of Washington with 19 wins.Good job Cards.

  8. Bw52 says:

Just saw Texas-TB playoff to see who gets WC.Beltre is only 1 hit behind MC.

  9. CariocaCardinal says:

All division champions had at least 92 wins – has that ever happened before?

11 teams with 90 or more wins – has that ever happened before?

  10. JumboShrimp says:

Super Pete finished the year with an OPS of 548.

For perspective, Dal Maxvill played SS for the Cards for 11 years, 7 as a starter. Maxvill’s Cards OPS was 559.
