How Major League Baseball odds have shifted in-season

In April, the folks at Bovada.lv provided a set of odds on a number of Major League Baseball-related races. I updated them in June.

Recently, they provided a refresh so I thought it would be interesting to compare and contrast then versus now.

In this installment, I have added to the earlier tables the beginning of August odds to win the six divisions, then the two league championships and finally, the World Series.

In the National League Central, the Cincinnati Reds have dropped back (to 4/1) from their shared top spot with the St. Louis Cardinals (1/1), with the Pittsburgh Pirates making a move up to 6/5.

Notice how the odds of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves have evolved from the start of the season until the present. In fact, the Dodgers, at 15/1 in June, are now the favorite for the NL pennant at 11/4.

The Detroit Tigers remain the American League favorite.

(In the tables below, the teams are ordered by current odds.)

    Odds to win AL West:

    Oakland, $61Million payroll, 1/3
    Angels, $137Million payroll, 50/1

    kkkkkkk

I picture Al watching the WS sitting on his sofa fashioned out of bales of cash, his sore foot resting on a bag of ice, with Dede off at the spa on Rodeo Drive, the kids outside playing catch with the pool man and the groundskeeper. I’m sure the checks are direct deposited, so he doesn’t have to get up.

Great job by Kelly last night. Also Jon Jay, Tony Cruz, Carlos Beltran, and Big Matt Adams.

The reinforcements we need lie within. Freese and Jay need to continue to step up. Kelly is giving a big lift.

Westbrook great effort tonight, 108 pitches on short rest, to try to eat innings.
