Shelby Miller leads NL Rookie of Year odds

Back in April, the folks at provided a set of odds on a number of Major League Baseball-related races. Recently, they provided a refresh so I thought it would be interesting to compare and contrast then versus now.

A new line has also been established. Because of Yasiel Puig-mania, the oddsmakers at set lines on the National League Rookie of the Year race. A familiar man, St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller leads the way. Apparently the American League race lacks such compelling participants.

NL Rookie of the Year odds
Shelby Miller (STL) 1/1
Yasiel Puig (LAD) 3/2
Hyun-Jin Ryu (LAD) 5/1
Marcell Ozuna (MIA) 10/1
Jedd Gyorko (SD) 20/1
Julio Teheran (ATL) 25/1

Other individual lines follow. Notice the very favorable odds on Yadier Molina’s NL MVP candidacy. The Cardinals have three of the top six favorites for the Cy Young Award.

Not even a race so far.Miller starting and winning for a team in a pennant race while Puig has under a 100 ABs for the overpaid last place Dodgers. Not even close .Shelby in a landslide,

  2. blingboy says:

Take it all with a grain of salt. Jaime Garcia is 16th in the NL Cy Young at 33/1. Maybe a knowlwdgeable commenter can explain how to rake in some easy money on that.

  3. kray66 says:

I’d take the 18/1 odds on Molina being MVP. I’m sure he won’t get the recognition he deserves, but that’s not a bad bet.

  4. crdswmn says:

Don’t know how accurate or predictive this is, but ESPN’s Cy Young predictor has Adam Wainwright in 1st place, and Clayton Kershaw not even in the top 10.
