The Shelby Miller lists

As pretty much the entire baseball world knows by now, on Friday night, St. Louis Cardinals rookie right-hander Shelby Miller allowed a leadoff broken bat single before retiring the next 27 Colorado Rockies in order.

I asked researcher Tom Orf to help put this almost-perfect game into perspective.

St. Louis Cardinals, 0 walks, 13+ strikeouts

In Cardinals team history, there were also three occurrences of no walks and 12 strikeouts, 11 with no walks and 11 K’s and 19 with 10.

I keep poring over the box score hoping to see Wiggy break out. I guess we learned last year when MM decides he has no use for a guy, that’s it. Go with a 24 man roster.

The offense must have been especially inefficient today. 13 hits, 3 walks, 3 runs. Jeesh.

The team has the best record in baseball and the best rotation in baseball and your only comment is to complain about the offense?

Maybe my Stalin comment wasn’t a joke after all. ;)

  2. JumboShrimp says:

Not a surprise Tulowitzki could solve Garcia, even at home.
We needed better from our batsmen today.

  3. blingboy says:

I see Wiggy got a hit today and scored a run.. So between him and Holliday they had a hit and scored a run.

I didn’t see the game, but it seems like Martinez lost his focus when he walked the guy.

Garcia doesn’t lay an egg at home normally. Hope all is well.

    Excited about seeing Gast Teusday.

When we are down 8-zip, its known as Wigginton time. Get his backside up off the pines and provide rest for our valuable guys. Its hopeless, Wiggy can’t hurt us any further.

Garcia had 7 Ks, good. He is not a power pitcher, more a tricky technician. Every now again, a powerful right swinger like Tulowitzki is going to hammer Garcia. The trick is keeping runners off base in front of Tulowitzki, so you can pitch around him. Garcia had to pitch to him today, unhappy result.

What is the commenter confidence level that Jake will be ‘fine’?

Wiggy is the only Card to have faced this guy the Mets have going tonight. Maybe his outburst yesterday will be rewarded with a start. If so, I would put Robinson in RF to run down the air mails. Perhaps PHE flashback night would be the thing.

Never mind scoreless inning/consecutive batter retired streaks, we have our 18 game winning all star Fit Lance going tonight. Time to see real pitching.

Even though the Mets hack is 0-4, the Cards chances of winning a game doesn’t seem to depend on the quality of the opposing pitcher. It seems like we make good pitchers look bad and bad pitchers look good. In any event, the Mets will always be pond scum to me.

    • Nutlaw says:

Westbrook will probably be fine, but I’m okay with the team’s depth if not.

Wiggy should not be rewarded with a start whatsoever. :)

      Gotta stomp the Mets, agreed.
