Changes in Cardinals minor league radio broadcast booths

One club’s loss is another’s gain.

On Wednesday, the Pawtucket Red Sox announced the hiring of Jeff Levering as the Triple-A International League club’s new radio voice. The 29-year-0ld won out over 150 applicants for the job, reports the Boston Globe. Levering has been in Springfield for the last three years as lead broadcaster and manager of public relations for the Double-A Cardinals and did a tremendous job there.

With the PawSox, Levering is replacing Aaron Goldsmith, who was recently named the new No. 2 radio broadcaster for the Seattle Mariners.

Prior to joining Springfield, Levering had the same jobs with Rancho Cucamonga in the California League. He also worked for FOX Sports West/Prime Ticket in Los Angeles. Jeff is a graduate of Chapman University, where he also played baseball all four years.

Levering’s replacement with the Texas League Cards has not yet been named.

The Triple-A Memphis Redbirds have announced a new broadcasting partner for long-time play-by-play man Steve Selby. John Pappadopoulos will share play-by-play and analyst duties for all home games at AutoZone Park. The man known as “Pops” replaces fan-favorite Bo Hart, who stepped into the Redbirds’ booth after the passing of Charlie Lea.

Pappadopoulos is a graduate of Curry College (Mass.) and comes to the Redbirds after a decade of broadcasting for the La Crosse Loggers of the collegiate summer Northwoods League.

Selby and Pappadopoulos will begin working together almost immediately. Starting this coming Monday, February 25, the Redbirds Hot Stove radio show will return to Memphis Sports 56 WHBQ. The hour-long show will air at 7:00 p.m. CT on Monday evenings for six weeks until April 1. The station’s feed is also available on the web.

Update 2/22: Lead broadcaster Nathan Baliva of the Peoria Chiefs announced the addition of Ryan Piers as the Midwest League club’s number two radio announcer this season. Piers was previously with Eastern Illinois and North Central College.
