I attempted to go to the Cardinal’s Caravan last night. When I arrived, the line outside the auditorium was already about two blocks long (no exaggeration). The temperature outside was in the lower twenties. Had I been 20 years younger with better stamina, I might have braved it, but standing outside in the cold for a long period of time just to get a few pictures was just not worth it to me. I read in the local paper this morning that many kids were turned away for autographs who had been standing in the cold for some time because of an imposed number limit on autographs. No number limit had been previously advertised in any of the local media stories for the event. Sounds like poor planning on somebody’s part.

I went down to breakfast at 7 AM and couple of hundred people were already lined up waiting for WWU, which was still two hours away from opening. My guess is they wanted to be first to get Carp’s autograph, though all the tickets were long-sold out.

On the Caravan event, my guess is they back into the number of autographs based on the time allocation. With multiple stops in different towns each day, they have to try to stay on schedule, though this must have been the last stop of the day. With a World Championship, one could imagine turnouts would be high. I know in some cities, they actually “sell out” so folks know ahead of time that they will/will not get in. It seems a shame any time anyone is turned away.

      Is that the Freese caravan?
