Could be a rainout today. Forecast discussion for Philly out of NWS office in Mount Holly NJ, an eastern suburb of Philly.

We have Furcal, Theriot, Skip, Punto, and Descalso for middle infield. No need for Greene. TLR will favor guys who have contributed the most this season.

Chambers chipped in a key hit a couple of weeks back against the Phils.

Its good to have a few extra players like Sanchez, Greene, Patterson, McClellan, Cruz. If we get by the Phils and somebody is not playing well, we can make roster adjustments.

If Furcal starts kicking the ball around………or looks at all injured………..this lineup sucks…….. Tony pumping up Molina at 6th is either inspired………or just plain stupid………..

let us hope Dave didn’t do more that just pep talks………..if he did/does? game will be out of reach by the 3rd……….. if the change up has no dive……….. plenty of trouble have we………..

    • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

PHI -220 ST Louis +200 O/U 7 …………………. the question…….is Furcal trying to get on……or he he just taking his cuts at the wall………… are we 5 singles and 3 runs……….or the usual……..?

AP has the stage…………….he knows what Halady will bring……….. is he waiting for a mistake…..or looking for opportunities………….. I have a feeling we will know right away where he stands…Furcal too…………… I pray Molina isn’t just posturing………this goes for his pitch calling too………. if everything is down………… we have problems………Laird beat these by validating the top of the zone…….

  5. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

    A damn miracle……………………….whoopee

  6. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

That inning could have went so many different ways………..Utley losing the handle is what created it……….it set up the Pujols pitch around the Haladay hated……..and then his pseudo aggressiveness at Berkman cost him……….perfect………..now he will be more defensive….perfect for us…….

  7. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Kyle’s mechanics are good………….. lets fly this thing…………..

  8. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Even if it wasn’t going so well……….things look good………..the Phillies are tight….they haven’t forgot that the 7 game losing streak………… if we could up the count a couple of runs here…..might see som blood in the water……………they were told Kyle would be pecking……he isn’t……..they are trying to hit his pitches…………

    • blingboy says:

Just got home from work, missed the fireworks. Lohse looks good I take it.

      • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

yea……….. Molina flips the bat after a swing and miss………..like a hired gun………… Skip was trying to show “surprising power”?????????????? Ump is starting to expand Haladays strike Zone…..and he knows it……… without some realistic roll playing this will close up a bit………

  9. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Freese doesn’t seem to get it……….. these are the play offs…………. every momentum shift is a landslide………… can’t do that………. I just sit him…..to make the point…….he’s worthless against Haladay anyway………. Molina went out there on directions from the dugout………Dave’s back.

  10. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Haladay is taking advantage of the dopes now………. he isn’t throwing many strikes except those first pitch breaking balls…………

  11. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

We really need to pressure Haladay again………he will be here for 9 if we don’t….. we need a couple so he goes out for a pinch hitter next time around………… I hope Alan Craig stops chasing………we needs strokes …not pokes……….

  12. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

This is the problem…………Haladays momentum is built on the Cardinals swinging a crap….. Craig embarrassing………….Ap isn’t going to run anything out………. Berkman got beat………. I don’t need to see Freese again……….we need some roadrunners………..this could be a tough inning…….we are bleeding a little………we need some defensive fireworks……..

  13. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Tragic decision……………… afraid of the dink hit from Victorino that ties the games….gives it all up…

  14. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

So much for game 1…………it was right there………dinks up the middle set up the stupid locations…………… we don’t have the dink hitters…………. good night……..

    • RCWarrior says:

I missed the game but I did see that the Cards had a lead early. I thought that was going to bode well for them but I see things went south. Their ability to score runs does give them the ability to win this thing…….even after the game one loss.

  15. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Cardinals were a 2/1 underdog………. a single and a walk and a Berkman does not a win make………Phillies rallied around there pitcher………… Cards players jumped on Lohse’s back and took there hacks at glory…………the worst an AP that seemed injured somehow…….not really 100% for somje reason………… Craig just looking foolish……..Jay a no show……. Lohse gives up dinks to guys willing to swing for a single………..we don’t have any………… and gets into a pissing contest with a hitter………. Howard is sitting changeup……just trying to spoil fastballs……….. Lohse loads the bases with 1 out, he’s going to give up runs………..he chooses to take some chances…game over……..Molina playing fastball/shangeup.the slider now off the table……and they do it again………

The real issue………we take Boggs, who now won’t be used again……… Scrabble has no business in this series……….and AP who wants to make it clear that something is wrong with him……
Tomorrow you see Theriot………..thats about all for the changes……maybe Holiday since Craig stunk……. Carpenter will be expected to match Lee……. and I doubt he can because they have a bunch of contact guys that will make him work…………………….. Lohse is your 4th game starter………..if there is one………. we started a fire now, tough to put out………Freese’s error is hard to calculate………. nice time to showboat like AP on his catch……….best player in baseball…………..thank god thats almost over………. Kyle was well prepared today. Dave was ministering and that seemed to help…………..kudos to him………..

In the end…………Berkman catching Haladay had a negative effect on our own fortune seekers….to bad…………..

    • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Albert Pujols says he’s fine, despite being pulled for a pinch runner in the ninth. He said he rolled his ankle (left) in Houston. Added manager Tony La Russa: “His heel was barking and we didn’t want him to run the bases in the ninth. He’ll play tomorrow.”

and here we go……………….. Tony is a player………

    • JumboShrimp says:

We were 2-1 underdogs according to Westie. We lost. It happens.

The Cards got a first inning HR out of Berkman for the second straight start by Halladay. Fantastic beginning. Last time it worked, this time it was not enough.

Lohse was really good for 5 innings. He made some good pitches to Howard but left a changeup up.

Halladay makes hitters look bad, except for Berkman during first innings.

Lee is a tough pitcher, but we will have to battle and see what happens.

  16. blingboy says:

Using Laird to pinch run was a fitting touch. He looked like he was hiding a ham under his shirt. Lay off the twinkies Gerald.

    • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

It was just theater BB…………….. it drew everyones attention to whose fault its not…….poor thing….

Their hitters made adjustments………….we just had a bunch of riders……….same attitude that sunk us early in the season………. today you have Theriot joining in……….. do you think Jay will slap at a few…..or just keep cranking for a king maker………….???? I hope Carp doesn’t get in trouble early…..be a long ride………..

      • blingboy says:

Enjoyed your game commentary Westie, but was too tired to join in. Once Tony sent Laird waddling out to run, I figured I’d throw in the towel too and went to bed.

I don’t like Carp on short rest.

        • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Thanks BB……….. wish you could retire………….. I reviewed the game………..bottom line

Haladay did not have his best stuff……..period……..we landed a heavy blow early……….he was staggered ………….. to be honest……..the ABs of Pujols were a joke…… Freese is a dull boy I’m sorry to say…….. Jay’s personal experience is still hard to penetrate…….. he is definitely a self interested person…….his acceptance of his current batting posture/technique………is disturbing to me….. why he doesn’t merit a makeover, or the reasons it is thought that he couldn’t, are perplexing……… Molina’s 180 bat flips get me laughing,,,,,,,hard to take him seriously……..but in truth, I thought he had the most viable approach….good plate coverage……….. Craig’s per-swing position and his subsequent bat path are a huge liability to a good look alike pitch arm like Haladay……… …………in short all…..all our fleas laid eggs………. Lohse carnied 9 guys and 60 thousand people as far as he could……….. in the end…..he did not shake any Molina calls off……. to not recognize that Howard was just spoiling fastballs……..waiting for the change was silly……. he does not hit the slider down and in…………being unwilling to put the tying run on second against a slap hitter…….with a much higher pressure situation……..was again Lohse’s downfall………….. Echo’s of Furcal muffed attempts in an earlier game no doubt played a part…………

Watching the other playoff teams hit is sobering………..I’m not so sure we have many players that could may these other teams…………….. Cliff Lee is an endless exploiter of inferior hitting…….. thats us unfortunately……….. AP has established his alibi…………he will be really making a show of it today…………. stoic is the name of his game………… and it was obviously premeditated…… what a sad game he plays………..I just sit him……..we do better without the BS………….

WWCBW-are you just high or just crazy?Sit Pujols and JJ is in need of a batting makeover? Jeez the guy has only hit .300 and .297 his first 2 years. He surely needs help bad. Some might think your ramblings are entertaining…………………………………and some don`t.

  17. ArRedbird says:

The main page of Yahoo MLB lists a 9/30/11 transaction:
RF Andrew Brown recalled from the minor leagues.

However, I haven’t found this move listed anywhere else,
so I’m being cautious about reporting it.

If true, perhaps it was made in case
Holliday could not play vs. the Phillies.

    • Brian Walton says:

I have not seen or heard of that. If Holliday cannot go, it would seem that Patterson or Robinson would be chosen ahead of Brown, who did not receive a September call. I would think Brown is more at risk of being removed from the 40-man than being called up. Sometimes at the end of the season, a group of 40-man players are listed in a paperwork move as “recalled, but not to report.”

    • blingboy says:

I wonder what ‘recalled’ means. He’s on the 40 man, but not on the active for this series. Which is the same status he’d have recalled or not if I understand it right.

  18. ArRedbird says:

    Thanks for the replies!
It’s curious, strange; that’s about all I know.

Agreement: that Patterson or Robinson would be the more likely to be chosen ahead of Brown.
