NOTE: This version of the roster matrix is no longer current. It reflects the 2011 changes from the start of short-season ball until the end of the 2011 World Series. It should now be considered a historical reference document. For the active roster matrix covering the 2011-2012 off-season, click here.
With the short-season minor league schedule now underway, it is time for another refresh of the St. Louis Cardinals system roster matrix. This version will reflect the changes made from the first week of 2011 short-season play. The previous matrix reflects the rosters as they evolved from the end of spring camp until then.
If you are new to the blog and not familiar with the Cardinals organization roster matrix, here is quick summary:
In the first week of 2011 short-season play, the St. Louis Cardinals had 288 players under contract from top to bottom, including a full 40-man roster. The matrix places each one at his current assigned level in the system based on his placement at the end of last season as well as by position. It is kept updated daily or as transactions occur.
Nowhere else will you find this current and comprehensive single-page view of the entire Cardinals organization.
Don’t be concerned about the order of the players’ names within a team. It doesn’t signify anything.
The players on the 40-man roster are called out in bold.
The short-season pitchers are broken out into returnees and summer 2011 signees. The latter group is either denoted by the round drafted or FA (for free agent).
At the end is a group of currently inactive and unassigned players. The final group, 2011 unsigned draftees, is not a part of the signed total.

Lot of time and effort Brian. Appreciate it, I’d be lost without the matrix.
What are the SS teams going to do with all those pitchers?
Now that Matt Adams is off the Springfield DL, maybe he’ll get a shot at AAA once he gets limbered up. Hamilton will probably be in STL for a while and Stav as been playing 1B in Memphis.
Think so? Which two would you send down if/when Freese and Punto are ready next week?
1. Kozma or Brown. 2. A RP, sent down or cut.
If Valdez works out I wonder if Tallet or Miller will go?
I would think one of those three or Franky.
Lots of guys playing with the old school look tonight. Even Lance.
It’s also the topic of discussion with the fox sports guys.
BB, don’t know about you, but I am needing a cold one after these first few innings.
Though its good to see Jaime may be settled back down
Missed the game tonight, at least they looked good. I understand an error opened the door. How did Jaime look?
Hope we get a report from crdswmn, down there schmoozing with RC and the boys.
My son will be down there tomorrow and always catches BP. I’ll tell him to try and get RC’s attention and say hi for me.
aside from one bad inning Jaime did look pretty good. Frustrating loss. Bp gave up (24th?) hr (franklin). In that bad inning call at first was close when DD had a high throw and Berk had to go up for it and came down abt the same time as the runner. Jaime had walked two and that cost us when the next batter hit a 3 run hr. Then the ump called a ball inside a strike (3rd) in the 8th when Holiday was up on a 1-2? count. He had called a ball outside a strike same ab. Holiday argued walking away and was ejected. Pretty ppoor call imo. So, exciting game for crdswmn. Then lightning and a little rain in the 9th, wonder if they were able to stick it out.? Hope we get a report.
If the ump was calling a wide strike zone I would think Yadi would help Jaime to take advantage of it. I guess its hard for a young guy to make in game adjustments like that, or maybe his controll was a little off that one inning.
Sorry to hear Franky got boinked. Whatever he and Dave have been working on doesn’t seem to be reviving him. If Lynn can be effective out of the pen Franky is sort of redundant.
RC won’t be at the game tomorrow BB.
It’s late, so I will give a full report tomorrow.
Okay, here goes
When we got onto the field, the pitchers were having BP. It was early, so there weren’t many people there. We had to stay behind a roped off area just behind the grass line, but it was still pretty close to the players. Colby was stretching out and noticed us so he came over to where we were ( I was with RC, Colby’s mother, brother and my brother). I introduced myself and my brother to Colby. Colby is a very personable young man. He autographed my hat and talked to RC for a little while about the upcoming game and the pitcher they were going to face, Villanueva. RC asked Colby to see if Lance Berkman would come over. Colby went to speak to him, and a few minutes later, Lance came over. Also very friendly guy. He autographed my hat and talked to RC for a few minutes. We watched the pitchers finish up BP and I took some pictures. Then RC spotted Ryan Theriot strolling by and called out to him. Ryan came over and spoke to us. He signed my hat and he and RC spoke about Ryan’s father, who RC had met at the game. They also talked about tattoos of all things. Ryan doesn’t have any and RC asked him if he thought about getting one or two. Ryan said he had thought about it but at his age (31) he thought it was a little late. Interesting conversation. By that time the the position players had started BP and Ryan had to go. Then RC saw Jon Jay standing off by himself and RC called to him. He came over and signed my hat but didn’t stay to talk. Then we moved over to the other side of the batting cage to get a better look at the hitters taking BP. At some point, Rick Hummel came over to talk to RC and I got his autograph too. He seemed suprised, but pleased that I wanted his autograph. He signed my hat and then he and RC proceeded to have a very lengthy conversation which I didn’t stay for because I went in search of a restroom. When I came back about 10 minutes later, RC and Rick Hummel were still talking. By that time the Cardinals BP was winding down and the Blue Jays had come out onto the field. Also many more people started to show up and the area began to get crowded. We went to sit down in the seats and watch the rest of BP.
Now, about the game. We were sitting in the “family” section. On my left was a large contingent of Molinas. Also sitting to my left and one row down was Jaime Garcia’s mother. Two rows down in front of us was Matt Holliday’s family. Some time after the game had started, Colby’s fiance arrived with their little daughter, who is quite adorable.
Unfortunately my luck didn’t hold out. Jaime pitched well but the error in the 3rd inning was the killer. The ejection of Matt Holliday was bush league, but I have said all along the umpiring this season is beyond dreadful.
I had a great time. RC and Robin were extremely nice to me and my brother and I also got to meet Colby’s brother Cyle, who knows Busch Stadium and everybody there like he was born there. I didn’t meet TLR, but RC didn’t hesitate to yank my chain by threatening to introduce me to both TLR and Joe Strauss
Thank you for sharing. It sounds like you had a memorable day.
Awesome, crdswmn. I’m envious. Thanks for the detail. Maybe my son and daughter-in-law will have better luck as for as the result. They’re on the Coca cola porch. Maybe Matt or somebody will hit one out there.
I’ve seen where Casey has racked up a few hits already at Batavia, did you hear anything about haw he’s taking to being a professional ballplayer?
Robin said he loves playing for the Cardinals. He gets to play about every third game and has already thrown out a runner trying to steal. That’s all I know.
Awesome, sounds like you had a memorable time, even if they didn’t pull out the victory.
Excellent report, wish they would have pulled out a win for you.
It sounds like you had a good time. It was quite nice of RC to give you the access. Very cool.
