For at least the eighth time in the last 15 months, an article from The Cardinal Nation Blog has been highlighted on FOXSports.com’s Major League Baseball page, achieved through this site’s association with Yardbarker. What brought the recognition this time was the post, “Pujols consecutive walkoff homers in extras a rare feat.”
The link to my Albert Pujols article is featured on FOXSports.com’s main MLB page about one-third of the way down the left column. But now that you are here, there is no need to go there, since the link will take you right back here to The Cardinal Nation Blog!
If you’re one of the many first-time visitors here and consider yourself a St. Louis Cardinals fan, please look around, register and join the discussion. I think you will enjoy the fresh new articles and daily commentary.

Not to mention the colorful characters who post here.
and the fresh sassy multi hemispheric banter………………………and voodoo prognostications……….:)
Vodoo? is that how you do it? I might have to give them more credibility than I did previously
Nice going Brian. I hope I said something smart on that thread.
Congrats Mr. Walton and Mr. Orf!
Thanks, bb and Ksb.
Cardinals sure did go hitter heavy early in the draft, it seems.
Given the imbalance in the system, it seems a wise decision.
I remain very busy loading drafted player bios, photos and videos onto the main site (free article). I still have 12 rounds to go tonight. Then there is tomorrow….
The article on the main site with the videos is great. Thanks.
I’ll feel a lot better once the new matrix is up.
The extra time spent on the player profiles now will pay off later. No one else has an extensive data base like that.
Still at least 10 days away from a new matrix…
1. Theriot, SS
2. Rasmus, CF
3. Pujols, 1B
4. Berkman, LF
5. Craig, RF
6. Molina, C
7. Schumaker, 2B
8. Descalso, 3B
9. Westbrook, P
This lineup is kind of a regression in my mind……………… he is asking Colby to play a role……if he doesn’t…Jay will be there tomorrow……..and Colby will sit on Thursday against Hap…….. Jay in center………….. thats my hunch………… Yadi at 6 is always unlucky…………. good breaking pitch and slider today……….. Craig would have a chance in ST Louis…….these guys are guarding the Crawford boxed 80+ times a year………… Craig should be going to right or taking the walk………..
Its better than Skip second. Colby has been a good #2 most of the year so far. Some backsliding lately maybe. He’s been a bit more on the ball in CF, so lets see what he does with that big, deep CF at minutemaid. Perhaps an over the shoulder catch running flat out up the hill.
I’m just happy to see Berkman in LF, whatever the reason.
He really rubs it in doesn’t he.

Colby is on fumes and needs a rest?? Gad. He’s 24
Today’s P-D:
“Colby Rasmus, who is 24 years old, also is back after not starting Sunday so he could rest weary legs.”
Of Course, there is no reason at all to mention Colby’s age, other than to make the point.

WC said……………… there was likely more said in that meeting than you’re reading………. thus todays lineup……….with stipulations…………. the mustache is a signal………. there is a self esteem element here.
I remain convinced niether Tony nor Carp wanted him defending CF after what Carp has had to endure in the way of limp wristed defense. Hopefully, the message got through.
I hear what you’re saying BB………..don’t think I agree……….. He can cover that ground……. you have to be amped up to make the explosive responses necessary out there……… Colby isn’t getting to attack speed, and then assessing the needs of the play……thats emotional………. he is lethargic there and at the plate………he’s depressed it would appear………….. this is a tough job with all the travel and performances stress……… for everyone……
Sure hope Lance has his Hero Suit on………….. this will be a revealing game………. Meyers can be tough. He temper is his vulnerability……… we need to get at it……..they will test Berkman right off.
Colby’s adult haircut is a good sign. He usually has one that looks like he got it sitting in the fire truck chair.
He shaved the stash too………….AP looks like he is 28yrs old when he’s clean shaven………. Lozano?
Albert’s o’fer…….he is forward and reaching………contact was his objective……….. this is how his slumps start……….he is showing the scouts the same/old stuff………. Myers is trying to elongate his career……he is 5mph under his usual Fastball………. smart? We won’t just watch the pitches out of the Zone….we can hit anything………..
I”m watching Jay………… he looked real relaxed there on the bench…….lets see how he hits in that fram of mind…………… Colby responds to the role, dropping his hands nicely to stroke the middle……..Albert falls for the high hanger that would have been impossible to keep fair……… I greedy though going no where………Lance responds to his failure…………… Westbrooke is going to give up 5 a least……… someone better respond.
Jake needs to watch the pitch count.
If he challenges anymore than he is……..he is going to give it up.
67 through 3 innings………….. be lucky to finish 6. They will get to him before then.
Myers is dog meat……….we have no team approach here……everyone looking for the dinger…
I rest my case…………. about Myers………. that wasn’t even his big curve………. we needed that.
Maybe we’ll put him out of his misery, meat of the order up.
Augenstein was pulled after 0.2 innings in his rahab start at Palm Beach.
St. Lucie Top of the 1st
Juan Lagares strikes out swinging.
Matt Den Dekker homers (4) on a fly ball to right field.
Zach Lutz pops out to first baseman Xavier Scruggs.
Jefry Marte singles on a line drive to right fielder Rainel Rosario.
With Stefan Welch batting, Jefry Marte steals (7) 2nd base.
Stefan Welch doubles (11) on a line drive to right fielder Rainel Rosario. Jefry Marte scores.
Pitcher Change: Chris Corrigan replaces Bryan Augenstein.
I don’t know if he wasn’t right physically, or what. Seems like they’d have wanted to leave him out there to knock some rust off.
He won’t be back anyway………. Lynn would make a “real” long man…………..
Lynn might be busy filling McClellan’s spot for a while. Unless he craters.
IIRC Jake gave up a similar lead last time out. Might be mistaken.
Jake is at 90 and up second in the top of the 7th. Hopefully he’ll get thru the 6th.
Well, he got the inning ending DP grounder. Sadly, it was right to ol’ brick hands.
Does he leave Greene in to play SS???????? I would………… Colby has a chance here with the lefty switching out………. we need more runs………….
Trying to get Theriot another AB to extend his streak. Very Tony-like.
That was a gift………… If you want Theriot for his bat…….he has to play second……… in a big game, its over with that mistake………..Tony must cover 3 inning now…..does he use Batista…..Frankie? Got to use him sometime.
No way Descalso wouldn’t be better at short.
Punto is going to be the SS…….. I agree, Danny shows good range at 3rd…….. we should just crush these guys……. AP syndrome lurking………
Can’t help but notice how deliberately “team oriented” AP is right now………… my problem…..the shave job……..good behavior……and no hits……….all bad signs……………
Well, there’s one less bad sign.
You’re right about the ‘young’ look. Probably start using those teeth whitening strips to get that Donnie Osmond smile.
He may have dropped a few pounds too. Looks good.
Minutemaid seems really dark. I’m not being metaphorical either. Or maybe I am
Albert made a nice swing on a pitch that was intended to be a back door cutter……….. he was on balance………..thats the game…..and that readiness is a positive sign, besides the results…… thats encouraging………..
The seats are dark. Lot of empties. It brightens up when there’s a big crowd.
I defer to you and your stadium knowledge BB
Check out the 360 panorama from the mound at Busch. All the seats are Red for a reason. Looks full when its empty.
http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/stl/ballpark/ipix/2006/index.jsp?view=pitchers_mound
To look full they need to look like ppl wearing tank tops, jean shorts and timberland boots, just ask Theroit
actually that was smart of the designers
Mark Lamping was a high school classmate and one time some of us got invited to a game in the owners box at Busch II. He told us about all the seats in the new park would be Red so as to look full when its empty. So it was part of the plan from early on.
Sounds like you have enough material for another article. I am looking forward to the next one
Yikes……
What do you say we see our old friend in the 9th?
Maybe………….great inning by Salas……he’s the man………Sanchez didn’t look well…..Tony didn’t even bother to go ask……..meaning it may have been known he was a little under the weather.
That hi probably brings him in………….
Colby goes to the plate…..determined to keep his hands up…..even practicing “pressing” them up………… sad……..
44 pitches for Salas……… Brewers lost………..
Franky was getting loose. Don’t know if you were watching the FSM feed. Sort of made me feel all tingly.
Nice solid win. How sweet it is.
Not economical though…………….. Westbrooke took some………. Berkman took some……..AP got some……………………….. Theriot is struggling to be a 0 sum player………. look at the pitching toll….. he’s went mental too………. Colby is the key player……. he made some throws today that are an important display in an attempt to turn the green light on his back ……at least orange……..A few months of display and he might turn it Red……..which is the only color……….. he is the wild Card……..
Craig led a group of his teammates to Rice University’s Reckling Field late Monday night to watch his alma mater, California, against Baylor in the final game of an NCAA regional. Craig said that originally Jay and Daniel Descalso were going to join him, but the group soon swelled to include Jaime Garcia, Tony Cruz and late addition Albert Pujols.
“They didn’t think I was serious about going,” Pujols joked.
Pujols and the group did not stay until the end, though it would have seemed familiar. Craig’s Cal rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to advance with a 9-8 win.
Merging……….or attempting to merge……… wow……….the plot thickens………
I guess its not just the youthful clean shaven look. Hanging with the kids too. Maybe its a mid-life crisis. Whatever it is, I hope it keeps up.
Glancing at the leader board, I noticed Luddy is up there in RBIs, two behind Albert.
It seems awfully like a “restorative” gesture to me………. almost like he is following “even more intently” the instructions of another……………repairing a very “compromised” public image…………..
I think this is fine……..good…….. my problem……. is he suggesting that he is “Back”……because technically……he ain’t…………… he is doing better, but I’d much rather see a slashing double on a tough “pitchers pitch” in a key situation…………..than hitting a Hr on a “very poorly located” pitch, by a guy playing for meal money…………… If he tries too hard to “be back”……..he ain’t gonna “get back” any time soon…………..
This whole affair is following very predictable lines. Simply, by repairing his image at home, he is raising his marketability to teams that may be in a rebuilding state………with lots of young players….
Is this the “Lord”………..or is this “Lozano”…………. speaking to our boy????????
I think I’m hearing black helicopters again.
Cards drafted another Rasmus. Jordan Rasmus C at Liberty U. Hows RCW gonna handle thi?
Just fine BW.
Congrats to Casey Rasmus and the Rasmus family.
RC is going on 1380 radio in St. Louis right now.
any chance for a summary?
Sorry I missed it.
The first part was about his son Casey being drafted. Attended Philly tryout and had inkling Cards would take him. Can run, good catch and throw guy. Bat most behind. 6.4 40, fastest of his kids.
It was funny to me, but the rest of the questions about Colby, I honestly believed I could have answered 99 percent similarly on Tony’s behalf based on his posts here.
Making progress every year, including this one.
Some, including him, would like to see it faster.
OF play tough for him to watch. Told Colby in HS as best player to get everything he could.
TLR should take him out back and talk to him. One of them needs to.
Doing good cutting down Ks and walking more, but power down as expected.
Needs to stick with approach. Seems to be changing daily.
Worked with him on hitting during off day.
Don’t discuss baseball during season.
Luhnow did great job getting youngsters ready to step in.
This year’s team fun to watch as last years was boring.
Reminisced about Lance Lynn and Little League World Series.
