KMOX announces Cardinals spring radio schedule

KMOX radio, the new-old home of the St. Louis Cardinals, has announced its 2011 spring training schedule of 17 games. Their opener is the team’s second Florida contest, against the Florida Marlins on Tuesday, March 1.

One game will be broadcast on delay due to a conflict with a Blues hockey game and three others are on Cardinals split squad days, March 3, 19 and 29. The basic schedule posted on KMOX’ site does not specify which of the split squad games will be covered, so in the schedule below, I assumed they will be the home contests in Jupiter. The radio games are not yet reflected at MLB.com, but will likely be added soon.

The usual spring Tuesday-Thursday-Saturday-Sunday schedule is generally followed, but there are several deviations. The details are below, with the opponents listed, not included in the KMOX announcement.

It is likely that all these games will be also available via subscription at MLB.com and some will likely be picked up Sirius/XM satellite radio, but those schedules are not yet available. Some opposing team’s broadcasts will also be included in these pay packages, and I will share that information when announced.

In addition, there is one television game announced so far with more coming. The March 23 home game against the New York Mets will be on ESPN as well as KMOX.

Update: The games with the Detroit Tigers on March 16, Boston Red Sox on March 20 and Florida Marlins on March 26 have been added to those clubs’ spring television schedules and are noted below. Though FOX Sports Midwest has yet to announce their slate of games, the 26th game will be among them.

Today on Bernie’s radio show Bernie asked Joe Strauss for an update on Albert. Strauss said there had been virtually no communication between Albert’s camp and the team’s camp for the last 10 or 12 days. He said the two sides have now resumed some communication which he described as halting.

It seems as there is nothing for the club to do but let Albert hit the market and see who offers him what. Then they can can go ahead and pay him the 300 million for 10 years. ;)

      • HBTexas says:

Or they can let someone else pay him. If they won’t pay him that now, why would they be willing to pay it later?

        • blingboy says:

HB, that’s where the subliminal PR maneuvering comes into play. If public opinion tips against Albert, his demand may become more flexible. If it goes against the Cards, they will have to meet his demand.

      • crdswmn says:

Or they could offer him 7/210 and if he walks he walks. What do I care if some other stupid club wants to pay him 10/300? If one does they deserve to get burned and badly. And I would love for it to be the Cubs. :)

“There are eight teams with No. 5 retired.

    Baltimore Orioles – Brooks Robinson
    Cleveland Indians – Lou Boudreau
    Kansas City – George Brett
    Cincinnati Reds – Johnny Bench
    Detroit Tigers – Hank Greenberg
New York Yankees – Joe DiMaggio
    Houston Astros – Jeff Bagwell
    Florida Marlins – Carl Barger”

    From Gould’s article today.

I can’t see the Yanks unretiring joltin’ Joe.

Also in the article is the link to Albert Pujols, Inc. new website.

Be sure to check out the following items:

    “Husband, Father, Teammate, Leader”
“Top 5 moments of 2010 for Albert”
“It’s ten weeks and counting for the Cardinals”

    • Brian Walton says:

Is someone actually suggesting that Albert would turn down record money from one of those teams rather than change his number?

      • blingboy says:

Brian, the point being made is that Albert has made “Pujols 5″ into a brand, and its his logo, etc. He’s not acting as though he thinks anything will happen to disprupt that, like he believes he will be Pujols 5 forever. Sort of tongue in cheek, but actually, I thought it might offer a peek at Albert’s mindset, which is the reason I mentioned it.

        • Brian Walton says:

I see it as a fun thing, but I also don’t doubt for a minute that for $30 million a year for eight or ten years, he would gladly update his brand to become “Pujols 55″ if necessary.

          • blingboy says:

For $25M for 8 Deidre might prefer to not uproot the family. Who wins that arguement. Maybe Albert has that much figured out but is doing his best to max the Cards offer.

I agree about considering all this just for fun. Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men. Just entertaining myself until pitchers and catchers report.

By the way, Brian, you might remember last spring I pointed out that Shelby Miller was in camp as an ‘early invitee to minor league camp’ (which hadn’t started yet) rather than as a non-roster invitee to major league camp. Did you ever happen to find out what the significance of that was? Are there going to be any early invitees this year?

  3. CariocaCardinal says:

How engaged is Albert in these talks? Publicly, he seems very disengaged. IF so, the Spring training deadline and the distraction issue makes little sense. It may also bit him in the public opinion game as I think the general public may see the same thing and question his camp cutting off talks.

    • Brian Walton says:

Impossible to tell from here who is in what meetings or phone calls. It should get very interesting to see what the two sides decide to share with the public if a deal isn’t done by the deadline.

      • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

It will never be in AP’s interest to show adversarial tendency’s to St Lou………… they will be the foundation in any bidding war………………….it will never be in the interest of BD to offer more crap than he has………..he wants to be the foundation in the bidding war……the safest place…

  4. Brian Walton says:

Just a note to call folks’ attention to the addition of two more spring TV games in the table above.
