Where’s Garcia’s 89 pitch CG shutout of the Giants? Or Waino’s CG shoutout of the Brewers? Who picked these games?

    • Brian Walton says:

As you may know, FOX Sports Midwest had the rights to carry 130 games last season. Garcia’s gem was part of the other 32. It was on KSDK on Sunday, August 22.

Waino’s Milwaukee masterpiece was on FSM on Friday,. June 4 and is listed among the 15 games above.

  2. crdswmn says:

I got mixed up and thought the 8-0 game was the one against the Diamondbacks where he only went 6 1/3 innings.

Garcia’s game would have been my #1

  3. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

And that’s the other thing too, what happens with Tex if you sign Pujols? You can’t trade him because a) he’s got a full no-trade clause, b) no other team is taking on that contract, and c) eating like, half the money left on it just for the sake of moving him is a terrible idea and a massive waste of resources.

    http://riveraveblues.com/2011/01/mailbag-albert-pujols-41647/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+RiverAveBlues+%28River+Ave.+Blues%29&utm_content=Google+Reader

I think that Tex has a bit more market value than is suggested here……….. Boras actually would be in control of that…………… placing him directly in the AP negation………………….what a world.

Like it or not, for the money, the LF handed Gonzales is a much better fit for the Red Sox than AP……..let alone the entangles……………….

    • Brian Walton says:

In my opinion, if Pujols hits the market, at least one of 29 other teams will find a way to make a market-level offer for him. And one team is all it would take. Which one, I don’t really care. Unless it is the Cubs, of course! ;-)

      • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

If you examine the Blue Jays payroll at this point……they may be able to make 200…………but why should they? The market definition is being changed…………. the Werth contract is a perfect example………….meaningless from a baseball standpoint……….. more significant in terms of revenue flow and a precedent in its manipulation……………..

      • CariocaCardinal says:

Of course you are assuming Pulos would play anywhere. Does he go to aloser like the Nats and hope he can turn them around. Does he go to Frigid and marketing poor Canada?

        • Brian Walton says:

No, I did not make that assumption. All I said was at least one of 29.

          • CariocaCardinal says:

Well it has to be one of the 29 de´s willing to go to or it wouldnt matter theoretically.

            • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

If he wanted to really make 300 million………… tear up the AL east by hitting 70 Hr’s in doors…..use an opt out and jump to the Yankees in 2013…………..

If he wanted money……….he would assume all the risks……take 5/150 on the condition is starts this year……………… set up the record runs and break the bank…………if he had balls he would……….he wants the Ken Griffy treatment…………roll him to the box in a wheel chair for a shot at 700.

  4. WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

The more I watch Tampa Bay, the more I appreciate the different angles in this game…………… Controlling Damon and Manny for half a season………… put them in advantageous situations for a few months………….trade them at the break to contenders for talent……….. or just win with them….
    Boras knows this game…………..

I think Fuentes contract with Oakland is the same…….they will sell a few tickets, and then trade what they thought was an undervalued player and his contract to the desperate for talent……….they keep fishing for the big one………………………….you couldn’t do that in St Louis……….fan perception plays to big a part in their planning…………

    • Nutlaw says:

Yeah, it’s tough to argue with relatively low cost signings of still productive players with no strings attached past the upcoming season! Tampa Bay played that well.

      • CariocaCardinal says:

The Manny deal seems extremely low risk for the price. If he hits and behaves himself, he could garner a very nive prospect or 2 at the deadline.

        • Brian Walton says:

It is a low price, but the last time Manny was healthy, hit and behaved himself was the second half of 2008 (after forcing his way out of Boston in the first half). He turns 39 in May and there’s always that risk of pregnancy. ;-)

        • blingboy says:

Its interesting to compare and contrast the risk taken signing Manny with the risk signing Berkman for several times as much money. I hope the Rays are not trying to convince anybody he’s an everyday outfielder.

I can’t see where the Rays are concerned with clubhouse issues. Its almost funny, the Cards clubhouse can’t tolerate Brendan and the Rays are OK with Manny.

          • CariocaCardinal says:

Would that be different than TLR/Mo trying to convince us that Berkman is an everyday OF?

            • blingboy says:

Exactly, CC. The two men are completely different personality types, but it seems like the issue of whether the player can produce on the field, and even stay on the field at all, seems very comparable.

The Cards have risked a considerable chunk of payroll, don’t have the DH spot as a failsafe, and have positioned Berkman as a key componant of the 2011 team. If he fails, its a big blow, unlike the situation in Tampa if Manny fails. The Cards are taking a much bigger risk, but the upside is far greater too. Not that Manny is incapable of matching Berkman in production, but rather how far the Cards might go if Berkman succeeds.

There is also the possibility that Berkman gives the Cards some flexibility regarding the Albert negotiation. Or at least perceived flexibility. And he also makes it more realistic to be able to rest Albert a bit more, or put a reasonable lineup together if Albert is unavailable. All assuming Berkman can stay healthy and play.

              • CariocaCardinal says:

Not sure why Berkman gives us any flexability regarding Albert — he is not signed beyond this year.

If Manny would return to being Manny, the Rays have enough pitching to make as much noise as the Cardinals this year.

      • Brian Walton says:

I wonder with all the changes about the clubhouse dynamics in Tampa Bay.

Damon having to settle for so little is another reminder how Boras screwed up in New York last winter. The Yankees were ready to offer a multi-year deal until Scotty’s hardball tactic backfired.

        • makers mark says:

It hurt Damon, but I think it helped the Yankees long term. I think their current mix in the outfield has a more rounded set of skills than it would have had with Damon playing left field.

Now if they were thinking of Damon as a DH, he has a lefty swing tailor made for their park-but the Yankees were already paying top dollar to several guys with limited skills that could fill that role.

        • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

Boras absolutely did not screw up in NY………… They were trying to off him as a player for years…. he was like Renteria…….win the MVP after stinking all year………………Boras made it look like it was his position, which took some of the sting out of the Yankee’s rejection………..he was trying to keep the price up for the lackey teams who wanted a hero.

This blurb by JG if the insider view all the way…………

          JEFF GORDON

Ryan is a superior defensive shortstop, of course, but the team chemistry was a real concern. Last year’s team fell flat. There were many listless games against lesser teams and no-name pitchers. La Russa had a clear vision for changing the team mix. He got his way. Punto is a guy he really, really wanted. I see him playing a lot against lefties, presuming he hits closer to .280 overall than .230. Punto will get every chance to win a key role here.

          • blingboy says:

Westy, its unrealistic to think Boras didn’t misjudge the Damon/Yankees thing.

It also seems unrealistic to blame Brendan for what has all the signs of a failure of effective leadership. But that is what the Cards are selling, and Gordon sells it pretty well.

            • WestCoastbirdWatcher says:

He didn’t misjudge……….for the sake off profit, he let his reputation buffer the players lack of marketability………..he does that…….he took the blame, disguising an over the hill super star…. while the Rays appear to be paying something, that deal could have some fine print………….

It appppppppppppppears, that there is more to the Brendan story than has made the “press”….. let it go……………..

      • Bw52 says:

And Manny is a productive player? Seems like he turned into a banjo bat with the Sox.

  5. Bw52 says:

Another thing to think about is how long will Manny stay interested if TB falls behind Yankees and The Boston buyboys.

  6. Brian Walton says:

The full slate of games has been announced and run tonight and each Monday over the next month.
