St. Louis returns to Springfield for spring exhibition

The St. Louis Cardinals will be taking on their Double-A club in Springfield, MO on March 29.

Back on October 4, when I highlighted the tentative 2011 Spring Training Schedule for the St. Louis Cardinals, I noted the following:

“There may be several end of spring exhibitions added later as the Cardinals travel north, perhaps with minor league clubs. As of now, however, the Cards are off between their final Florida contest on Monday, March 28 and the regular season opener against San Diego at Busch Stadium on Thursday, March 31.”

The first update to that initial plan has been announced by the Springfield Cardinals. St. Louis will return to the southwest Missouri city to take on their Double-A affiliate on Tuesday, March 29 at 7:07 P.M, the minor league club announced in a Tuesday press release.

The “07” start time will be standard for Springfield in 2010 as they celebrate their seventh season of existence in the Texas League. The team is owned by their St. Louis parent.

St. Louis previously visited Springfield for pairs of end-of-spring exhibitions in 2005 and 2008, seasons one and four, however the 2011 match-up will be a single game only.

The only way to guarantee a seat to the March 29 game is by purchasing 2011 Springfield Cardinals season tickets, now on sale by contacting (417) 863-0395. Single-game tickets, including ones for the exhibition game, are expected to go on sale in late February or early March, reports the Springfield News-Leader. The Cardinals’ complete regular-season schedule can be viewed here.
