  1. crdswmn says:

Question Brian. Nyger Morgan received an 8 game suspension for what happened on Wednesday night in Florida and his shoving of Bryan Anderson last week. He already received a 7 game suspension for throwing a ball at a fan in Philly, which he has appealed. That totals 15 games. If the appeals are not decided before the season ends, will Morgan serve the suspensions next season?

  2. Brian Walton says:

I believe the answer is yes. If I was in the team’s management, I would push hard to get the hearings over with ASAP so he can serve the suspensions during meaningless September games instead of next spring when there is renewed hope.

  3. crdswmn says:

Maybe they plan to get rid of him. I’ve heard the fans want him gone.

  4. crdswmn says:

    Lineup: Schumaker 4, Jay 9, Pujols 3, Holliday 7, Rasmus 8, Molina 2, Feliz 5, Ryan 6, Garcia 1.

  5. blingboy says:

The lineup makes sense. I’m suspicious. It’s some kind of trick.

  6. crdswmn says:

I don’t expect to win the division or the WC. But I expect better baseball.

  7. crdswmn says:

If nothing else good happens this game, I am happy that Jaime struck out BP (JV was gravy).

  8. crdswmn says:

    That was quick.

  9. crdswmn says:

    Albert shaved (not his head).

  10. crdswmn says:

    Am I all alone tonight?

  11. blingboy says:

I’m catching bits and pieces of the game. Saw Albert fail to contribute in the first. Pillips is really getting bood hard. The Cards didn’t get bood though. This aint NY.

  12. crdswmn says:

Albert got a sac fly RBI in the 1st BB.

  13. blingboy says:

    My mistake.

I heard Matt got hit, but he’s still in there.

Jaime looks good, arm looks lively.

  14. crdswmn says:

This isn’t going to be easy but so far they are not laying down.

  15. blingboy says:

We know Cincy will never give up so no lead would be ‘safe’.

As an aside, I have seen where A-Rod fired Boras and Jayson Werth fired BHSC. Don’t know what to make of it, if anything.

  16. crdswmn says:

    I spoke too soon.

  17. blingboy says:

Both pitchers working fast. There have been 5 runs and the game is just over an hour at end of fourth.

  18. crdswmn says:

My problem is getting too emotionally involved in these games. I still haven’t learned how to control that.

  19. blingboy says:

Beer helps. I walk my dog when it gets too much.

  20. crdswmn says:

    I don’t drink. No dog.

  21. blingboy says:

    Not even a little bit?

  22. crdswmn says:

    Medical issues.

  23. blingboy says:

Not even part of a dog?

  24. crdswmn says:

    Beanie baby dogs.

  25. crdswmn says:

They are doing it again. No hits with RISP.

  26. blingboy says:

Albert has been getting under the ball again like he did before. His swing has sort of a loop to it, rather than a direct line to the ball.

  27. crdswmn says:

Yadi is speaking Spanish to Jaime.

  28. crdswmn says:

They will not win this game if they don’t score more runs.

  29. blingboy says:

    The meat is 0fer.

  30. crdswmn says:

The danger is coming up. I hope Kyle has his stuff tonight.

  31. crdswmn says:

Walking Votto was not a good idea.

  32. crdswmn says:

    Kyle doesn’t has his stuff.

  33. crdswmn says:

    More runs!!!!

  34. crdswmn says:

The offense is putting pressure on the bullpen again. Recipe for disaster.

  35. blingboy says:

Albert, Matt and Colby have to do something.

  36. crdswmn says:

    Not Frankie! Use Motte!! Grrrrr.

  37. crdswmn says:

    I need some Valium.

  38. crdswmn says:

    Pitching won this game.

  39. crdswmn says:

It appears 57 has abandoned ship. I miss him.

  40. blingboy says:

That last strike was a gift.

The middle of the order did as little as it is possible to do. With Albert, Matt and Colby not stepping up, we have no hope at all. At least Colby is not stepping up for cheap.

Nice win though, pitching was superb. Garcia really has got his second wind. Jay doing a good job fighting the fade.

  41. blingboy says:

It is worth noting that Garcia has 1 win less than Carp, and 3 fewer starts. That is sort of an eyebrow raiser.

  42. crdswmn says:

It appears that both the Braves and the Pads are fading. If we are chasing them in the WC, that could be better for us.

  43. blingboy says:

Every ten game winning streak I ever heard of started out with one in a row.

  44. crdswmn says:

Pads lose again. That is now 8 in a row.

  45. blingboy says:

Even though Ludwick has been doing little at the plate and not winning games for them in the cleanup spot, they persist in batting him 4th game after game. Clearly, their plan was to get him as a cleanup hitter and they are sticking with the plan without regard to results. The result, predictably, is disaster.

  46. Brian Walton says:

It is kinda funny. We often read about one-sided trades or ones that helped both teams, but how about one where both contenders went in the tank afterward? It is early, but that is the bottom line so far…

  47. blingboy says:

All three have stunk. Cleveland might not count since they were already in the tank, but they have been at least as bad since the trade.

  48. crdswmn says:

    Lineup:

    1. Miles, 2B

    2. Jay, CF

    3. Pujols, 1B

    4. Holliday, LF

    5. Stavinoha, RF

    6. Molina, C

    7. Feliz, 3B

    8. Ryan, SS

    9. Wainwright, P

  49. blingboy says:

Another sensable lineup. What gives? Miles deserves to play since he’s been hitting. Colby hasn’t shown up at all since coming off the DL. Can’t wait on him. Stav lit it up in Memphis.

Matt, like Luddy in SD, will hit fourth no matter what. Making adjustments is one of the keys to baseball, whether you’re a player or a manager.

  50. crdswmn says:

Great the defense is screwing up again.

  51. crdswmn says:

    Thank you Aaron Miles.

  52. crdswmn says:

My nerves will not take this.

  53. crdswmn says:

I may have to go take a drive.

  54. crdswmn says:

I’m still here but just barely.

  55. crdswmn says:

I am going to take that drive now. Check back later.

  56. CariocaCardinal says:

Cards tanking – impact on re-signing Pujols? More likely or less likely than a month ago?

  57. Brian Walton says:

I would think less likely. Will he start saying he needs better complimentary players around him?

  58. crdswmn says:

I am back. Why was Waino taken out early? Did he pitch that badly?

  59. Brian Walton says:

RC, I thought he danced a bit around the issues, but I guess he had to.

  60. RCWarrior says:

Years from now you will hear these guys say that this generation of player just didn’t respond the same way that their predecessor’s did. They won’t say it any time soon but after the dust has settled they will acknowledge that they couldn’t adjust to this new type of player quick enough or weren’t willing to make any adjustments in how they approached managing in time to remain in the game.

  61. crdswmn says:

It’s going to be a lonely rest of the season it seems.

  62. RCWarrior says:

They’ll be back Crdswmn. Today college football cranks up and that together with the cards Annual September swoon has emptied out the chat room today :) Everyone will be back sunday through friday until its over.

  63. crdswmn says:

    Well, I’m glad Mizzou won.

  64. crdswmn says:

    Colby went the other way!

  65. crdswmn says:

I hate when Fox covers a game. All day it is has been about how terrible the Cardinals are.

  66. RCWarrior says:

McCarver is horrible. He makes Al HRabuttski seem like he knows what’s going on.

  67. crdswmn says:

So RC what do you think is going on in the clubhouse right now? Screaming and knashing of teeth or silence?

  68. RCWarrior says:

Getting showered and dressed in a hurry and getting the heck out of there. I’m sure they will repeat all of the Bull Durham quotes when asked a question but everyone in there knows its all over. You can see that Waino is drained and if he is out of gas with all of his positive vibe then you know the rest of the group is running on fumes.

  69. RCWarrior says:

Remember Crdswmn, its a business, not a game.

  70. crdswmn says:

I am going to keep talking to myself because it is the only thing I have left to do. Anyone can feel free to chime in at any time. Roy Halladay has given up 2 HRs in the 2nd inning.

  71. crdswmn says:

Pads lose again. 9 in a row.

  72. crdswmn says:

There’s a HR derby going on in Philly. 2 for Crew, 2 for Phils.

  73. crdswmn says:

3-3 in Philly. I hope Halladay loses. Giants/Dodgers game on in an hour. Cain v. Lilly, good matchup.

  74. crdswmn says:

Interesting game in Philly. Still tied 3-3, both teams have six hits, 3 solo HRs for Crew, 2 solos for Phils.

  75. crdswmn says:

    Halladay gave up another solo.

  76. blingboy says:

Taking a page from 57′s book, I saw this on the P-D fan board, and it sort of sums things up.

Injury is zero excuse – there’s only one position player (Freese) out. And he’s no where as big an offensive threat as Bruce, who’s out for the Reds.

Rosenthal commenting that it will be first time in history that a team had three pitchers with ERAs under 3.0 and missed the playoffs. And yet, Mo/Tony look for pitchers instead of bats…

  77. crdswmn says:

Phils won but Halladay didn’t. I am going to watch the Giants/Dodgers game.

  78. crdswmn says:

I guess I got it wrong. Halladay was given the win.

  79. RCWarrior says:

I get the impression Bling, that Tony feels that he needs to to get good pitching to keep the opponents offense at bay while using his knowledge of match ups to guarantee the offense has success. So pitching is a more important need in his eyes because he can’t help the pitchers like he can the hitters. :)

  80. RCWarrior says:

Ubaldo and Halladay are the front runners for the Cy Young at this point. Waino will be in the top 5.

  81. blingboy says:

Thanks for mentioning that Colby got his hit to the opposite field.

I heard from a couple people that seeing Chapman was a treat.

  82. blingboy says:

You might be right RC. But I think its more likely that when Tony/Mo went in to tell Bill they needed money to hire a bat he told them some stuff. Or would have if they’d been stupid enough to ask. It’s the masterplan remember. $120M worth so far, and Albert still ahead.

  83. crdswmn says:

Jimenz, Halladay and Waino are tied at 17 wins. Jimenez is not in top 5 in any other category. I’d say Halladay is the front runner for now.

  84. blingboy says:

We don’t know if Matt will hit better in clutch situations next year. He might though. What he won’t do is morph into a better fielder. So we’re stuck with that for 7 years. Should have had that shot off the wall. He looked pretty bad going back for it. Looks like he doesn’t have all that much range coming in either. Of course, he’s been told not to bust himself up out there.
But the runs he costs over a great defender has to be factored in to his overall worth. I’m thinking Mo forgot about that in the tunnel-vision focus on putting a bat behind Albert. I too thought that would solve all the problems, but I don’t get paid to be right about stuff like that.

  85. RCWarrior says:

The only way that plan works is if TLR can manage the young players. If he cannot then you get Miles, Wynn, Feliz Lopez, etc and then you start looking bad all over. Mo’s mistake was believing Tony can get anything out of the young guys. The name calling and constant you suck speeches have worked wonders with Colby, Tyler G, Brendan R and A Craig. Jay has been ok because he gives TLR ammunition against Colby so Jay has been excused from the same treatment the others have gotten. I’ll be anxious to see how a year with TLR next year without Colby will see Jay respond. Hopefully Jon will keep doing the things that got him to where he is now.

  86. Brian Walton says:

Who will be first to take the bait? ;-)

  87. CariocaCardinal says:

I will! I will! but I’m sure it just artificial bait that RC has. IF had a live worm, he couldn’t contain himself. :)

  88. crdswmn says:

3 run homer by Jay Gibbons puts Dodgers up 4-0.

  89. crdswmn says:

I’m usually game for being baited but I am not in the mood tonight.

  90. crdswmn says:

Halladay’s four HRs knocked him out of the ERA top 5 for now. So Waino only pitcher in top 5 in all categories.

  91. blingboy says:

crdswmn, I figured you weren’t in the mood when you didn’t say much about the Jonathan Winters ‘part of a dog’ crack last night. So I’ve been treading lightly.

RC’s dream would come true if either/or was gone next year. I happen to think it will be Colby that’s still hear. The reason is that if Tony stays there is no where to go unless Bill is going to spend a bunch on players, which he isn’t. A lot has been put into revamping player development, and paying the core group requires that youngsters fit in and succeed.

Albert and Matt are two of the best offensive weapons in baseball, but it has been proven beyond any argument, that they alone cannot carry the team offensively. Its also been proven that good pitching will not offset that reality.

  92. crdswmn says:

The JW joke went right by me BB. I know how RC feels about it, but my preference is that Colby stays and Tony goes.

  93. crdswmn says:

Why do they always have to sing at Dodger games?

  94. blingboy says:

All we can do is hope. I’ve nothing against Oquendo but I’d hope they would go with Maloney or Warner from the farm, depending on just how ‘young’ they would want to go. I think they are around 45 and 35. Albert would have a year to get used to it. Hopefully, they would not bring in one of the old buzzards that will likely be available. But first things first. There is a game to play tomorrow.

  95. crdswmn says:

Dodger lead is 4-2. Lilly hung a couple of breaking balls for 2 solo shots.

  96. crdswmn says:

Dotel gives up a solo. 4-3 Dodgers.

  97. crdswmn says:

Broxton gives up a 2 run in t9.

  98. crdswmn says:

It’s HR derby night. 7 in the Crew/Philly game and now 5 in the Giants/Dodgers game.

  99. crdswmn says:

Giants come back to win 5-4. Bleh.

  100. RCWarrior says:

Pop as manager and D May as your hitting coach. D May is the best hitting guy in the cardinals organization……..by far. Alright, I’m in Bling, make it happen.

  101. RCWarrior says:

Absolutely awesome comments by TLR this past week in regards to Walt J, the Reds GM. Its pretty obvious Tony is building up Walt at Mo’s expense. All of the accolades had me wanting to send Tony a text and tell him to get a room. :)

The only thing missing was if Tony had said, I wish Mo would be a GM more like Walt, you know Walt takes what you give him and makes the most of it. Walt doesn’t try to hit a HR with every move, he will take the single the other way when he needs to for the betterment of the organization.
