A one-hour video tour of one of nation’s greatest museums, located in Cooperstown, New York.
With the help of a number of members of SABR, I continue to research my pet project from over the winter, the circumstances surrounding Stan Musial wearing the number 19 in spring training 1942. It is because of one of them that I am sharing this post.
Recently, I have also worked with several members of the research staff at The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York and plan to make an archival-focused visit there in the near future. I was hoping to snare a work-related trip to the Hall this past weekend for the induction of Whitey Herzog, but that did not come to pass.
At any rate, not everyone has the opportunity to go through the Hall, but for those who cannot, the following one-hour video is the next best thing. Enjoy!

I visited the Hall of Fame in the 80′s when I was in college. It was awesome.
That Stan #19 thread was a lot of fun last winter, Brian. Perhaps you could post a link for anyone who missed it.
While looking for pictures for that thread I came upon the following site which is a gold mine for anyone interested in vintage photos of ballparks, players and teams.

bb, thanks. I fixed my omission above.
Proof that The Cardinal Nation blog represents worthy addendum to all that a Cardinal fan can learn at our shrine in Cooperstown, here is Brian Walton’s “When Musial didn’t wear number 6″:

The Comments section is especially rich (blingboy, you are my hero too!)
When I hit blingboy’s above Baseball Fever link, I was transformed into kid let loose in a candy store!
Oops! I just discovered the “pet project” meaning of “I fixed my omission above”. Like I said yesterday, I’m a card-carrying member of the Department of Redundancy Department. Sorry, ’bout that, Brian…
Cards lineup tonight: Lopez 3B, Jay CF, Pujols 1B, Holliday LF, Ludwick RF, Molina C, Ryan SS, Waino P, Miles 2B
No pre-game chatter? The game starts in an hour.
Long day at work on top of being emotionally drained from the Sunday night game, crdswmn. I hope you’ve got the heart pills handy tonight.
I figured you would like Brian’s project and the thread 57, and of course the photos site, its addictive.
I am happy to see that it wil be Garcia v. Santana tomorrow, instead of Hawksworth. I agree with 57, that matchup scared me.
I’m wondering if new York City and being on ESPN will get to Jaime. Nothing has so far.
Garcia seems unflappable to me for a rookie.
Had an episode of my health issue this afternoon (which included actual “heart pills”), but I’m going to be okay and ready to play, “Symptom Six” of “Beat the Reaper”! As you guys know, if Adam is “on” again tonight, the Mets will get no more than 5 hits and score no more than a single run: It should be a game which is “made to order” for the offense, if it wants to be namby pamby. Hell, Adam can take his bat and show our hitters how it’s done (as he’s done so many times before)!
Take things easy 57. Best wishes.
Flip did a Charlie Brown slide into home. Came up short.
Glad to hear you are allright 57. I”l bet the Mutts are happy to have David Wright at 3B
Holliday continues to stink with runners in scoring position.
Albert is the best .299 hitter in baseball.
I had to reboot… Missed both of our boppers grounding-out and Studwick’s RBI… Missed Adam’s no-hit inning…
Albert smashed it down the line but Wright made a nice play, then couldn’t get it out of his glove so couldn’t get the DP.
Holliday dribbled one out there like we have seen countless times with RISP.
You should have seen Flips Charlie Brown slide 57, slid to a stop about 2 feet short of home. Woulda been out anyway but it was something.
Is Waino a little off tonight?
That 3rd inning was much better. 2Ks and a groundout.
(I’ve been having great fun repeatedly rebooting… damn it!)
Flip’s slide must have been hilarious (complementing what we’ve been regularly seeing during the past several games)…
Adam’s pitch-count is a little high tonight, but… considering the 1-hitter and a big bunch of groundouts (in addition to the 3 strikeouts), I’d say he’s doing fine…
Damn.
Brendan’s avg. has skyrocketed to .198. Tht’s exactly .100 less than Albert.
Wainy’s having bad luck in addition to not having his best location.
We just have a terrible problem on the road this year.
Strasburg scratched, couldn’t get loose, getting MRI. Anybody have any idea what that sounds like?
Adam is long overdue for this… I’m only hoping that our Boppers will finally respond in kind (keeping an eye on the scoreboard and noticing that the Reds are beating the Brewers 3-1)…
This was the game I was sure we would win. With Santana pitching tomorrow I have grave doubts about this series.
Really… Fernando is also long overdue for this: It’s just a shame that both starter and reliever should have their occasion for a rotten outing at the same time…
All eyes, however, are not upon either Adam or Fernando, but squarely upon our 3 Big Boppers!
I think our boppers won’t be bopping tonight.
You would know the Mets would pick a game against us to come out of their slump.
It’s not so much about the 8 runs scored against us as it is the pitiful single run that our impotent offense has generated.
All right, Albert… Nobody out and two men on base…
“Oh, for…!” This is not the night to plummet to .297, Albert…
I am not a fair weather fan, but this inconsistent offense is wearing on my patience.
What a sad commentary: Only one out, with two men on base and Matt grounds into a DP!
Fernando has certainly come back strong and with unruffled Major League poise…
Albert and Matt ought to be praying that they will get another opportunity in this game and that they will somehow redeem themselves…
If you’re gonna swing at the first pitch, you need to make it count; hey, Studwick?
LaRue just went above the Mendoza Line (.208)!
Brendan just went above the Mendoza Line (.201)! Our small-ballers keep filling the bases!
(Albert and Matt ought to be praying real hard…)
Winn went back down to .246 in classic DP, rally-killing style!
I’m sure that the best .297 hitter in the Major Leagues wants very much to avoid going 0 for 5 on this particular night…
Albert isn’t going to get the MVP this year if he doesn’t get with the program soon.
8-1-3 Lopez & Jay
8-0-1 Pujols & Holliday
If Albert finishes the season below .300, his bargaining power shall begin to fall apart like a cheap suit…
So our mighty 0 for 5 Albert goes down swinging! What a way to crown an ugly 8-2 game!
Good Night, guys… It’s been a day of heartache for me (in more ways than one) and time now for this old man to lay down for the night. There can be no doubt that we will fare much better tomorrow…
