As Don Lang has passed away since the above article was written, I believe Fred Schmidt (DOB 2/9/16) is the oldest living former Cardinals player.

I have know Fred for all of my life, he is a close personal friend of the family. I have been lucky enough to play catch with him when I was younger, he would throw the ball so hard it would knock me on my ass. When I got older he would tell THE BEST stories about the clubhouse and the guys on the teams he was with. He is a class act, none better. As for the previous post about guns we must remember Ted was shooting birds in an empty stadium not punks in a crowded club. Another time, another place. Long live Fred Schmidt!

The linked article talks about Ted Williams shooting pigeons pre-game at Fenway. Interesting that I read this on the same day the MLB clubhouse ban on guns is in the news.

Nowadays, many baseball players make vast amounts of money. In days bygone, they could not, as this interesting article conveys. Mr. Schmidt lives in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania, a nice name for a place, but its not the Riviera or a tropical retirement of the wealthy. Its a nice article from the Allentown paper.
