I see Tony's comments as a non-issue. Other than a few column inches here and there nobody seems to be making anything of it. Most fans already know Tony is looking at winding up his manager career sooner rather than later. It is assumed, I think, that he wants to look at doing another baseball job, something in the front office, once he hangs it up as manager. It doesn't seem like people were assuming he would move into such a job here in St. Louis. It would be normal for him to look at places where he has friends.

Tony has always been percieved to be on the side of the players. It would be interesting to see him in the GM role somewhere. The Reds definatly don't have enough money for him to spend. Reinsdorf probably does, but he would have to keep his hand on his wallet.

As to Westy's theory, I would not be surprised at all if Tony is on Albert's side. Good thing for BDW Tony's not the GM.

I like him? I would want to please him?

I think Tony knows what he is up against here in ST Louis. He know that the only way forward is to play the game as DeWitt invents it. And he has played it well. If he makes a serious Gaff, and BD has the public on his side, BD will sharpen the guillotine. Tony was playing it cool this year. He was in the "know" side of the Albert/Team tiff over his elbow diagnosis. He could afford to delay on his contract signing because of how vulnerable BD was. The privilege of delaying made him look allot more "loved" than I think he really is. My advice to Tony..........make K-Mac dye his hair black.

What did he just do? Created a distraction...................... he is showing you how the Albert talks are really going.
He has seem most of the meaningful players sign for bargain prices.
He knows the function of the Holiday signing.
He is protesting...........as he did last year.

Tony may have been playing nice but he was also playing either stupid or insincere with STL fans. He always says he doesn't want his status to be an issue and thus a distraction. What did he just do? Created a distraction.

If TLR was being interviewed from Chicago, its not surprising someone ask about him moving to Chicago after his days of managing are done.
TLR knows its a good practice to say something nice in response and he said something nice about Jerry Reinsdorf. It may well be sincere, too.
Maybe it will come to pass that TLR joins the White Sox someday. Its not an implausible idea.
But TLR knows a lot of folks through MLB, so its possible he might emerge in another place too. For the time being, Tony is probably focused on the 2010 season.
