Walton on Monday Fantasy Focus show

I will be returning as Jeff Erickson’s guest on Monday’s Fantasy Focus show on Blog Talk Radio. The segment can be heard live from 12:30-1:00 p.m. Eastern on June 29th and on demand afterward. Our focus will be the Cardinals obviously, with special emphasis on the ramifications of the Mark DeRosa trade, both in reality and in fantasy baseball.

Those devotees of XM Satellite Radio are likely already aware of the long-running Fantasy Focus show. For 2009, it has moved from XM to Blog Talk Radio. Listen live, Monday through Friday at Noon ET, or on demand.

A reader email I just received:

I have listened to about half of your segment with Erickson. Sounded great but I would argue that the Cardinals do not have a second base prospect in the minors. I truly believe that Descalso is the guy.

    My reply:

When Hoffpauir had a .420 OBP two years ago, I heard the same thing. Show me more than a half-season of Descalso and I might agree. (Edit: Descalso’s OPS last season was .697.)

The Hoff just put up a 1.000+ OPS in June so I (unlike others) haven’t written him off totally yet.

Aaron Luna is another interesting guy to watch. He may never hit for a high avg but looks like he will maintain a high OBP and has pop which will result in a consistently high OPS. Don’t know much about his glove though.

I removed Hoffpauir from my top 40 last winter but Luna slipped onto my list based on his potential. Ironically, Hoff was #39 on the community rankings, same as where I placed Luna. Haven’t seen him enough at 2B to comment on his defense there, however. (link to rankngs)
