Tampa also has a solid idea about entering Brazil. Brazil is the largest nation in S. America. Its soccer teams used to be the world's best. A lot of good athletes. If Tampa can encourage some amateur play, Brazil could become a rich source for baseball.

The Astros are ailing financially. Last year, they traded for Miguel Tejada, now they want to offload his salary. They let Wiggington leave. They signed oft-injured Hampton to replace Randy Wolf. Dumping their Venezuelan operation sounds like another cost cutting move.
The Cards are spot-on. There are a vast number of ambitious youngsters in Venezuela. Having a local presence is only a positive in terms of recruiting talent.
